Energy Star Certification

Energy Star Certification
Details

I. Introduction to Certification

ENERGY STAR, whose full Chinese name is Energy Star, is a government energy-saving program jointly promoted by the United States Department of Energy (DOE) and the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), aiming to better protect the living environment and save energy. Products that have passed the review of Energy Star will be listed on its official website and can receive energy-saving subsidies, which will enhance their high recognition in the market. Energy Star comes with a certificate and, like DLC, is a voluntary certification.

The Energy Star program was initiated by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US Department of Energy (DOE) in 1992 with the aim of reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. The plan was later adopted by Australia, Canada, Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand and the European Union. This program is voluntary. The Energy Star standard typically saves 20-30% more energy than the US federal standard. The earliest products to cooperate with this plan were mainly information appliances such as computers. Later, it gradually extended to motors, office equipment, lighting, household appliances, and so on. Later, it also expanded to buildings. Since 1996, the US Environmental Protection Agency has been actively promoting the Energy Star Building Program. The EPA assists voluntary participants in assessing the energy usage of their buildings (including lighting, air conditioning, office equipment, etc.), planning energy efficiency improvement action plans for the buildings, and conducting follow-up operations. So in some residential or commercial buildings that have introduced new environmental protection concepts, the logo of Energy Star can also be found.
