1. Introduction to Certification

BSMI is the abbreviation of the English "Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection" of the Bureau of Standards and Inspection of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan. Under the leadership of the government's economic department, the Bureau of Standards and Inspection (BSMI) formulates product inspection specifications for electronic and electrical products entering the Chinese Taiwan market. From July 1, 2005, products entering Taiwan, China must be supervised in terms of electromagnetic compatibility and safety regulations. BSMI certification is mandatory, and products must comply with safety, EMC testing and related testing before they can be authorized to use the BSMI logo.

There are currently three ways to apply:

1. Type approval includes two types:

Type approval (EMC+Safety), since January 1, 2004, 178 types of electronic and electrical products need to apply for this type of approval. Applicable standards: EMC+Safety.
EMC type approval (replacing the original EMC application) will be enforced from November 1, 2002. Applicable products: 61 electronic and electrical products only have EMI requirements, and 124 electronic and electrical products only need EMI + safety report (if the product has safety requirements). Applicable standards: EMI only.
2. Certification registration

Enforcement date: not yet announced, applicable standards: EMI+safety regulations.

3. Declaration of Conformity

Enforcement date: January 18, 2002.

Applicable products: 19 kinds of information technology equipment components.

Applicable standards: CNS13438 (ONLY EMC).

For electrical and electronic products, the three application methods provided by the Bureau of Standards have the following characteristics:

1. The declaration of conformity is only applicable to some parts of information technology equipment (please refer to the product description on the website of the Bureau of Standards, Inspection and Quarantine).

2. It is up to the product cost manufacturer to decide to apply for certification registration or type approval.

3. The difference between certification registration and type approval is:

(1) Inspection method:

Inspections for customers are simplified if the product has already received type approval.

For products applying for certification and registration, customers are not inspected, and random market testing is adopted.

(2) Fee difference:

The application fee for certification and registration is higher than that for type approval, and an annual fee is charged, while type approval does not charge an annual fee.

1. Compulsory commodity inspection mark (CI MARK): motor products (such as home appliances), electronic products (such as information equipment and entertainment audio-visual equipment products), mechanical products (such as electric tools), chemical products Products (such as tires and toys).

2. Voluntary orthographic mark (CNS MARK): industrial products, building materials, wires, home appliances, automobile and motorcycle parts, industrial raw materials.

3. Voluntary Product Verification Mark (VPC MARK): important safety components, digital set-top boxes, lamp holders, battery chargers, restricted hazardous substances, lithium batteries, sports and fitness equipment, etc.

The normal time is 3-5 weeks, and it can be expedited, and an additional fee will be charged for expedited delivery.

The type approval and certification registration certificate is valid for three years and can be extended once. Declaration of Conformity without certificate.
