Qi2.2 Certification

Qi2.2 Certification
Details

As of 2025, the Qi2.2 certification is based on the latest standard Qi v2.2 released by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), which is a further upgrade of Qi2.0 (magnetic Wireless Charging), mainly optimizing power, efficiency and compatibility. The following are the core standards and technical details of the Qi2.2 certification:

The core standards of Qi2.2 certification:

(1) Infrastructure

- Continuing the MPP (Magnetic Power Profile) of Qi2.0

Mandatory magnetic alignment (similar to MagSafe) is required to enhance charging efficiency.

- Supports a standard power of 15W (Some devices may support higher power, subject to negotiation by the manufacturer).

(2) New key improvements added:

Higher power support (>15W), typically 25W.

- A new "Extended Power Profile (EPP)" has been added to extend the power range, allowing for fast charging from 24W to 30W through protocol negotiation (with support from both devices).

Dynamic power adjustment

Real-time monitoring of device temperature and battery status, and dynamic adjustment of power to prevent overheating.

Enhanced Foreign Object Detection (FOD

The detection sensitivity has been enhanced, supporting the identification of smaller metal foreign objects (such as ≤0.3g).

(3) Compatibility

- Backward compatibility: Supports Qi v1.2.x (BPP/EPP) and QI 2.0 devices, but non-magnetic devices cannot enjoy the high efficiency of MPP.

2. Technical Requirements (Compared with Qi2.0) :

Project Qi2.0(v2.0) Qi2.2(v2.2)
Maximum power 15W(MPP) 15W (MPP Foundation) + Optional 25W (EPP Extension)
Magnetic alignment Mandatory requirement Mandatory requirement: Optimize the magnet layout (compatible with more devices)
Efficiency ≥75%(15W) ≥80%(25W),Efficiency improves at higher power
Communication protocol Upgrade based on Qi v1.3 New Quick handshake protocol (reduces pairing time)
FOD sensitivity ≤0.5gMetal detection ≤0.3gMetal detection

3. Testing and certification process

1). Laboratory tests: The following tests need to be completed in a WPC-authorized laboratory:

- MPP compatibility: Power transmission stability under magnetic alignment.

- High-power heat generation test (such as 25W).

- Cross-brand interoperability (such as iPhone, Samsung and other devices).

2). Document Submission: Provide PICS (Declaration of Agreement) and test reports.

3). Certification mark: After passing, the Qi2.2MPP /EPP mark can be used.

4. Applicable equipment:

- Transmitter (Tx) : High-power chargers that support magnetic attraction (such as on-board and desktop charging pads).

- Receiving end (Rx) : Flagship mobile phones (such as iPhone 16 series, Samsung Galaxy S25), headphones, tablets, etc.

5. Differences from Qi2.0:

- Power boost: Qi2.0 only supports 15W, while Qi2.2 offers higher power options.

- Energy efficiency optimization: Reduce heat generation and increase charging speed.

- Future expansion: Reserve protocol support for subsequent higher power (such as 50W).

6. Precautions

- Cost: The certification fee for Qi2.2 is higher than that for Qi2.0 (with increased test complexity).

- Accessory selection: Users must recognize the Qi2.2MPP /EPP mark to ensure compatibility.

For specific test standard documents (such as WPC-S-0683QI2.2 Specification), you can contact WPC or an authorized laboratory to obtain them.
